Considering solar for your CT home? Here’s how easy it is.
Here in Connecticut, switching to solar has never been easier. From initial site assessment to final inspection, the entire process is taken care of for you, including all the permits, paperwork, and logistics. With this process, you can be enjoying free, clean solar energy in approximately 2-4 months.
Here’s our process for installing solar on homes in CT:
1. Site Assessment
Timeframe: 1-3 days
The first step towards installing a solar array is to schedule an in-person site assessment. We can schedule this appointment over the phone or online; most appointments are scheduled within 1-3 business days.
Before this appointment, our solar design experts will create a customized solar solution based on your current electric usage and an in-depth shade analysis of your property. During the appointment, our solar expert will review your electric bill, explain how solar works, discuss financing options, and answer any questions you may have. We’ll also inspect your roof and property, take measurements, and identify the ideal placement of solar panels.
2. Final System Agreement, System Design, and Permits
Timeframe: 4 to 8 weeks
If you decide to move forward with solar, our project management team will complete rebate and financing paperwork, order materials, and schedule the installation of your solar solution. Our engineer will make the final system designs, identifying the placement of panels, wiring, and connections to your meter and electric panel. During this stage, a construction permit will be obtained and design plans will be submitted to your municipality and CT Green Bank.
Sometimes some site work needs to be done prior to installing solar panels. This can include replacing a roof, adding structural support, and removing trees.
Our engineers make sure your roof is structurally sound before installing a new solar panel system on it. This includes looking at the rafter/truss construction and how much additional weight your roof can handle. Living in New England, most roofs are designed to handle additional weight because of heavy snow in the winter time. A solar system weighs about the same as layer of shingles per square foot.
If your project requires additional work, our team work with you to determine what needs to be done and schedule this for you ahead of time, so it does not affect your installation date.
Timeframe: 1 to 2 days
Installation will typically begin within six weeks of signing your contract; most residential solar projects are completed in one day. Our crews are trained to be efficient and can perform additional site work if needed.

4. Inspections, Utility Approval, and Activation
Timeframe 3 to 6 weeks
After completion of the installation, your municipality will approve the system and notify the utility company. This includes a quality check, final walk through, electrical inspection, and a building inspection. Once the utility company gives their approval to activate the system, the system will be up and running, powering your home with clean, efficient energy from the sun.
